Participants attend 3 workshops on Fridays November 13th, 20th & 20th from 6-9 pm

Explore the art of moccasin making with Indigenous artists in a hands-on workshop. Learn foundational techniques and work on your own pair of moccasins step by step while learning about the cultural significance behind the practice.

Led by artists Lisette McCracken, Nicole Blacksioux and Melissa Redpath McCracken, this workshop invites you to experience moccasin making through an Indigenous lens. Gather together to learn, create and hear about the traditions and knowledge woven into this art form.

This workshop is part of the Indigenous Traditional Arts Project.

The Langham Cultural Society, in partnership with the Circle of Indigenous Nations Society (COINS), is proud to present the Indigenous Traditional Arts Project, a series of free community workshops celebrating Indigenous arts, culture, and knowledge through hands-on learning experiences.

Throughout the series, participants will have the opportunity to learn directly from Indigenous artists, Elders, and Knowledge Keepers who will share traditional artistic practices, cultural teachings, stories, and lived experiences.

These workshops are open to people of all cultures. Whether you are Indigenous or non-Indigenous, the project invites our community to gather together through creativity, curiosity, and intercultural understanding. By learning traditional art forms directly from Indigenous knowledge holders, participants gain a deeper appreciation for the rich cultures, histories, and living traditions of Indigenous Peoples while building meaningful relationships within our community.

This series is appropriate for adults and older teens who are able to respectfully participate in ceremony.

Accessibility note: This workshop is being held in the Loki room on the 2nd floor of the Langham and is accessible only by stairs. Moccasin making involves hand sewing tough leather, detailed hand movements, and working with needles and small materials. If you have questions about whether the workshop will be suitable for you, please contact us.
