The Langham Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of two new exhibitions, showcasing the work of two Kootenay-based artists whose practices are deeply rooted in place, time, and lived experience.
In the Community Gallery, Fern Van Horn – Kootenay Time gathers five years of landscape painting in watercolour and acrylic. A longtime Kaslo resident, Van Horn draws inspiration from the mountains, rivers, and shifting skies of the Kootenays. Her plein air sketches, process notes, and finished works reveal a lifelong devotion to observing light, colour, and change in the land she calls home.
In the Main Gallery, Oiseau – Wait explores the layered meanings of “waiting” through a series of figurative oil paintings. What began as studies of “ladies in waiting” has grown into a meditation on time, anticipation, and stillness, weaving in playful visual puzzles, narrative depth, and audience participation. Based in Argenta for more than four decades, Oiseau brings to the project her signature sensitivity to colour and form, alongside the lyrical sensibility of her life as a poet.
The Langham invites the community to join the artists in celebrating these two compelling exhibitions at the opening reception on Friday, October 3rd from 7–9 pm. Admission is free, and all are welcome.
