Shifting Ground” – A multimedia exhibition featuring new works from five Kootenay artists in response to one of the greatest challenges of our time, climate change. Pat Forsyth, Kevin Kratz, Richard Reeves, Maggie Tchir, Peter Velisek.

“snow crust and sinew” – Vuntut Gwich’in artist Jeneen Frei Njootli describes the interconnection of her Nation & the Porcupine Caribou through sound and sketch, giving us a glimpse into Northern life and the impacts of a rapidly changing climate.

“The Arctic – a delicate balance of strength and fragility” – Oil painter and Arctic guide Laura Adams captures the dramatically changing Arctic landscape.

Art Galleries Exhibit Opening Reception – KALIKA BOWLBY and KOOTENAY LAKE HISTORICAL SOCIETY – Saturday March 2nd, 2-4pm

Kicking off the 2019 season on Saturday March 2, the Langham Galleries present two new exhibitions.

In the Main Gallery Golden based artist Kalika Bowlby’s ‘Hold Water’ reflects on the uncertainties of one of our most basic necessities- water- and how it connects us all.

In the Community Gallery guest curator Elizabeth Scarlett presents a selection of historical photos from the Kootenay Lake Archives. ‘Kaslo’s Architectural Heritage’ explores the influences on the original layout of Kaslo and how this now influences the refurbishment of the downtown area and its Victorian style homes.

Join us for an afternoon opening on Saturday March 2 from 2 – 4 pm. These exhibitions run from March 2 – May 12/2019. See you at the Langham!

As part of the exhibition Child’s Play, artist Natasha Smith will be
facilitating a free hands-on workshop for community members to create
their very own magnetic cell (similar to the ones displayed on the wall of
the gallery) Participants will playfully create using paint and collage
materials. All materials are supplied and participants will be able to
take home their magnetic cell at the end of the workshop.

In the Coomunity Gallery – A BRUSH WITH THE WILD by the Kaslo Friday Painters Group

This exhibition of watercolour paintings represents ten Kaslo based artists. From diverse backgrounds, this group meets to paint together in a supoportive environment where they can learn and explore the medium of watercolour together. Inspiration is found in the local flora and fauna, mountains, and lakes within the areas surrounding Kaslo. This group exhibition features a varied collection of original watercolour paintings that capture ten unique perspectives.

Sealskin; Gathered Kelp– Maureen Gruben

Inuvialuit artist Maureen Gruben combines industrial, domestic, and land-based materials to create works that share intimate perspectives on life in the Western Arctic. A focus on coastal materials connects Arctic and coastal regions, highlighting our dependence on ocean resources, and the beautiful speci­ficities of place that remain present in organic matter even as it is transformed.

Fare ForwardJo Willems

An exhibition of gouache paintings from Revelstoke artist Jo Willems is a personal journey into the insights of aging and learning to let go. Each painting uses the comfortable language of landscape to invite the viewer in, though Willems utilizes slight shifts in perception to stimulate curiosity and invite the viewer to delve deeper into the meanings held within.

Kicking off the 2018 season on Saturday afternoon March 10, The Langham Galleries present  ‘Kaslo– The Beginning, Celebrating Kaslo’s 125th Anniversary. Join us for a special afternoon reception on Saturday March 10 from 2-4pm. Meet Seathra Bell, the new Langham curator, and Elizabeth Scarlett, guest curator, will give an introduction to the exhibition. View a selection of historic photographs from the Kootenay Lake Archives showcasing the early years of Kaslo.
